Dr. Wernsman is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, with 10+ years experience helping and empowering women from all walks of life. She is passionate about her clients' success and well being, and gives them tools to overcome and succeed.
She uses a positive therapeutic approach, rooted in Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
and Dialectical Behavioral Therapies (DBT), to cultivate her clients’ strengths
and enhance their experiences in relationships, career, and recreation.
Dr. Wernsman specializes in: trauma recovery, including childhood abuse,
domestic violence, and sexual assault, crisis intervention, depression,
anxiety, LGBTQI mental health, as well as career assessment and
counseling. Moreover, she has worked with many artists, ranging from
filmmakers to writers to actors, facilitating the healing of creative traumas
and assisting in overcoming creative blocks.
Prior to joining the Thrive Psychology Group, Dr. Wernsman was the
Associate Chair and an Associate Professor at The Chicago School of
Professional Psychology in Chicago, IL. There, she trained Master’s and
Doctorate-Level students to provide quality mental health care.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Wernsman researches, publishes and
presents on topics related to trauma-informed schools, criminalization of
mental illness and LGBTQI communities, complex trauma, and families
who have lost a loved one to homicide.
Dr. Wernsman holds multiple advanced degrees:
- Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from DePaul University
- M.A. in Clinical Psychology from DePaul University
