Meet Dr. Courtney Cook…
A Human-First Approach: Authentic Connection and Empowerment in Therapy
Dr. Cook approaches therapy with the belief that “we are all in this together.” She recognizes that human struggle is a shared experience and prioritizes being “human first” in her work. She embraces authenticity in sessions—whether that means sharing a laugh, acknowledging imperfections, or chatting about the latest TV shows—fostering a genuine connection where meaningful progress can happen.
Self-empowerment is a cornerstone of the work she does with clients. Even in the most challenging circumstances, she encourages clients to focus on what is within their control, helping them develop actionable plans to care for themselves and move forward with confidence.
Compassionate Care and Tailored Strategies for Lasting Change
Dr. Courtney Cook is a dedicated clinical psychologist who creates a supportive and empowering space for individuals navigating life’s challenges. With a human-first approach, she helps clients strengthen relationships, manage difficult emotions, and build resilience. Dr. Cook has extensive experience working with transgender clients, military and law enforcement personnel, and parents seeking guidance in child development. She integrates evidence-based modalities, including CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), IPT (Interpersonal Psychotherapy), and IBCT (Integrative Behavioral Couples Therapy), tailoring each approach to meet her clients’ unique needs. Passionate about fostering growth and self-empowerment, she supports clients in finding balance, healing, and meaningful change.
Guidance with Purpose: Strengthening Relationships, Resilience, and Parenthood
Dr. Cook brings extensive experience in helping clients navigate relationship and communication challenges, including conflict resolution, assertiveness, and boundary setting. She is passionate about equipping individuals with the skills to manage difficult emotions while staying true to their personal values, whether it’s addressing anger, anxiety, or perfectionism. With a background in health psychology, she is well-versed in trauma recovery and is deeply committed to supporting parents—whether in managing the emotional complexities of parenting or addressing practical concerns like tantrums, potty training, and pediatric sleep issues.
Dr. Cook integrates evidence-based approaches, including CBT (with expertise in CBT-Insomnia), ACT, Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), and Integrative Behavioral Couples Therapy (IBCT), tailoring each method to fit her clients' unique needs. She is also dedicated to supporting individuals and families throughout their IVF and fertility journey, ensuring compassionate guidance at every step.
Advocacy, Expertise, and Life Beyond Therapy
Dr. Cook is deeply committed to supporting transgender clients, holding certification from the Veterans Health Administration’s Transgender Health SCAN-ECHO program. She also has extensive experience working with men, particularly those with military and law enforcement backgrounds, drawing from her eight years of service at the VA. Her approach is grounded in understanding, ensuring that every client feels seen, heard, and supported in their journey toward healing.
Beyond her clinical work, Dr. Cook embraces adventure with her family—whether it’s bouncing on trampolines, exploring the outdoors, or watching Paw Patrol with her young son. She finds joy in cooking and experimenting with new recipes, often using food as a creative outlet. A dedicated lifelong learner, she’s always seeking out new books, research, and ideas to deepen her practice and personal growth.
Dr. Courtney Cook is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in Tennessee (PSY 3515).
